THE ASSOCIATION OF PROPERTY AND FACILITY MANAGERS

As the building stock in Singapore increases and undergoes significant re-building, the need for expertise to maintain and manage these properties becomes crucial. The authorities have done an excellent job in ensuring a high standard of management and maintenance of our built environment, but it remains the responsibility of the professionals to move towards the direction of self-regulation and control to uphold and continuously improve this standard.

The Association was formed in July 1995, with the following objectives:

  • To promote and maintain the standard and practice of Property and Facility Management
  • To advance the status of Property and Facility Managers
  • To further advance the education and research in the field of Property and Facility Management jointly with our local tertiary institutions
  • Develop uniformity in the standard and practice of Property and Facility Management, especially for managing agents under the Land Titles Strata Act
  • To establish a professional code of conduct and practice.

As a start, all our members must meet our minimum education standard of at least a Diploma or Degree in Building/Real Estate or related disciplines. For the category of Fellows, they must have at least 5 years of working experience in a senior position.

Our Association will provide the platform for meaningful exchange among the professionals as well as constructive dialogue with the authorities and other allied professional bodies. To facilitate, the Association will organise seminars, short courses, talks and will promote research with tertiary institutions. The Association has also from time to time, supported companies of related trades and government agencies to promote the standard and practice of Property and Facility Management.

Presently the Association has about a hundred members and is working towards having corporate members in due course.

Apart from looking after the Property and Facility Management interests in Singapore, the Association also intends to encourage members to share their expertise offshore. This is in line with our government’s call to continue our regional thrust despite the vagaries of the economy. In this context, the Association will establish links with similar associations and organisations in this region to facilitate networking for our members. We will also participate actively in relevant seminars/conferences in this region including presentation of papers based on our Singapore experience.
